Choosing a Hebrew Name
Hebrew names must be chosen prior to בְּרִית בַּת / הַטָּפַת דָם בְּרִית Hatafat Dam Brit / Brit Bat ceremony with Dr. Weinberg. We recommend using the our Hebrew Name Search, however, if you have few options that come up when your name is entered, or if you prefer something different than what is provided, feel free to pick a completely different name. You can choose any Hebrew name you would like, it does not have to correspond or relate to your English name. [If your chosen Hebrew name has not been selected from the website listed above, we do ask that you provide the source(s) of where your names have been found. This precaution is just so that the authenticity of the names can be confirmed, in the case that you would ever need to use them when dealing with any legal transactions in the land of Israel. If the source(s) can not be found or if a chosen name is a derivative and not an original Hebrew name, please supply an alternative name that can be used instead.] When selecting your Hebrew name, be sure to double check to see if you have chosen a male or female translation before adding it to your application. The option to include only a first name, or both a first and middle name, will be left up to you. If you’d like, you can choose up to three names. Please note that some Hebrew transliterations (the English format in how the Hebrew is pronounced) may be altered before it is added to the printed certificate, in order to be accurate with how the names are pronounced in Hebrew and in Israel. Although you will have a Hebrew name, please continue to still use your English name in regular correspondence, including emails, texting, writing, and conversing.
